Putting together a beautiful room can be a challenge. Sometimes it is more than just what thread count feels best or avoiding clashing colors. Sometimes it is more basic than that. How do I make my bed properly so it looks like it does in that photo? now that I have a spare set of sheets, how do I fold them? We’re here to help you with those challenges.
Bask in the glow of Jonathan Adler with this fabulous collection of candles. These candles truly smell divine. Each comes in its own little modern keepsake container that has many uses once the candle has been enjoyed.

The tension of opposites. While some people may think of black and white as either boring or too strong of a combination for a bedroom, I think it is a great opportunity to create an alluring boudoir that is rich in contrasting textures. Let’s take a look, shall we. Here is what I envision in the ultimate glamorous black and white bedroom.
An alluring modern bedroom done in black and white.
First we lay the foundation with some decadently luxurious modern bedding by Wildcat territory. The group shown here is Shanti and it is a shimmery satin texture.

To contrast the shimmer of the bedding, I like this black and white modern wool rug by Chandra. The oversized floral motif adds pop and visual contrast to the solid bedding.

I see the top of the bed as another opportunity to layer contrasting textures into this room. The Jonathan Adler Zebra pillow is a heavy wool pillow that adds a lot of visual pop. Next to this, I would place the Thomas Paul Greyhound pillow that is done in a heavily textured linen. This would add not just a striking visual contrast but a contrast in textures among the pillow and the bedding.

The Missoni Federico throw adds yet another level of sophistication to this color story. I would fold the Missoni throw across the foot of the bed.

The Jonathan Adler Claridge Component lamp is a fabulous way to add some additional bling to what is already shaping up to be a glitzy, glamorous bedroom.

And last but not least, you need some wall art. The Bittersweet screened canvas would complement the space beautifully. I would hang this right above the headboard for maximum visual impact.
Now that PillowsandThrows.com has created a new department for Modern Curtains & Drapes, a good explanation for the use of curtains and drapes and a some instructional “How-To’s” are certainly in order.
When you think of curtains your mind goes straight to window treatments. There are other ways to use and hang curtains to change a room. This is especially true when you are working with an open space and you want to break up that space and add an air of intimacy and privacy to certain areas.
A one room studio apartment can be separated into two rooms by using curtains to separate the bedroom from the rest of the apartment without compromising the space. To accomplish this you will need to use light, high tension wire that will remain straight and not droop and allow the curtain to be pulled back and forth smoothly.
You will need a plastic coated cable (aircraft cable works great), turnbuckles, wire rope clips, and screw in hooks with anchor to match the wall. You will also need a cable cutter for the cable wire.
Preparing To Hang Your Modern Curtains
Site in your line and mark two holes for the hooks.
Drill out the holes and push in anchor. Screw in the hooks.
At one end of the cable you will need to make a loop and secure it with a wire rope clip.
Open turnbuckle and attach it to the other hook.
Stretch the cable to the turnbuckle and cut the cable, leaving at least 6 extra inches at the end.
Remove the turnbuckle and fasten cable through one end with a rope clip.
Attach the turnbuckle to the hook.
Now you will need to tighten the turnbuckle until the cable is rigid.
Once you are done with this you need to make sure the wire is rigid enough, test your anchors to make sure they are secure, trim down any excess wire, and slip your curtains onto the wire.
Modern curtains instantly add color and texture to a room.
For windows it can be a bit more difficult to hang drapes and curtains by yourself. You may want to ask a friend or family member to help, you will be glad you did. The first thing you will need is a good, sturdy step ladder. Make sure your hands are clean and have no dirt or lotion on them to stain the curtains. Make sure that your rod is secure and strong enough to hold the curtains without bowing. If your windows are wide, you will want to add an extra bracket in the middle to assure the rod remains straight.
Hang curtain panels carefully, working from the outside edge and working toward the center of the rod. Once you hang the curtains you will be able to arrange them and do any adjustments.

When looking at beautiful studio photos of modern bedding ensembles, it can sometimes be confusing and rather daunting to try to re-create that plush look at home.
The best bedding ensembles are created in layers. From the basics of sheets to the designer pillows that top off the look, each layer is important to plan out to achieve that picture perfect bed.
Let’s look at those layers closely. As our example bed, we are using the Ashley Citron bed by Blissliving Home.

Layer 1: Sheets A set of sheets that fits your bed well and feels comfortable to you is the most important part of your bed. It is the foundation and will be the part of the bedding that you come into contact with the most. Choose a set of sheets that you love.

Layer 2: Quilt, Coverlet or Duvet Cover The cover you place over your bed will be the layer that attracts the most attention and will provide visual “weight” and focus for the entire bed. When selecting the item that will cover your bed, consider things such as climate, fabrication, frequency of laundering, pets and children. A cooler climate may call for a heavier cover. If you have kids or pets and need to launder your bedding often, dry clean only is probably not the best option for you.

Layer 3: Pillows and Pillow Cases
Euro Shams & Euro Cases typically measure 26 x 26 and are placed against the wall or headboard. Not only do they make a bed look more complete by adding another layer of color, they are also great to prop yourself up on when reading in bed or watching TV.
Decorative pillow shams typically match your duvet cover and are often sold as a set with your duvet cover. Shams usually have about a 2″ decorative flange and are filled with either a standard or king bed pillow.
Pillow cases typically match your sheet set and add another layer of color. Pillow cases are often included in a set with the rest of your sheets and are also filled with either a standard or king bed pillow.
Depending on your own personal style, the pillow shams can be placed in front of or behind your pillow cases. However, Euro shams or Euro cases are always placed along the headboard.

Layer 4: Decorative Pillows
It’s time for some fun! Smaller decorative pillows add an individualistic and polished look. Try different looks and see what you like best. Two identical pillows in front of each sham creates a modern look. Three to five various pillows tucked front and center can be used to create a more romantic look. Mix and match until you find something that you love. Again, there are no rules with decorative pillows, only endless possibilities.
